Complete Controls Matrix (PC)

Mecha Chameleon (Meccha Chameleon) turns your body into the canvas, so every core input revolves around painting and posing:

ActionPC Keyboard & MouseNotes
MoveW / A / S / DWalk the stage during the prep window and while hiding
Look / AimMouseAim the Spoid at the surface you want to copy

Sample Color (Spoid)SpacebarEyedropper that copies the color of the surface under your aim
Apply PaintLeft Click (hold)Paints your body with the selected color
Change PoseRCycles poses so your silhouette matches nearby objects

A controller is supported for movement and rounds, but painting is a precision job — the community consensus is that mouse and keyboard win for serious camouflage work.

The Paint Workflow That Actually Blends

  1. Pick your spot first. Location choice beats artistry. A great spot with average paint beats a masterpiece in the open.
  2. Pose before you paint. Strike the pose that matches the object you’re imitating (press R to cycle), so you know exactly which surfaces will be visible.
  3. Sample two tones with the Spoid. Grab a lit tone and a shadow tone from the surface you’re blending into.
  4. Paint in layers. Base tone first, then shadow and texture, then a sparing highlight on edges that would catch light.
  5. Tune the material. Use the HSV sliders so a glossy body doesn’t shine against a matte wall. The settings menu also includes metallic paint and roughness options worth experimenting with.

The Number One Giveaway

A flat, single-color body is the most common reason new players get spotted. Real walls and props have shading, texture, and lighting variation — your paint job should too. If your color looks right but you’re still getting found, the problem is almost always missing shadow layers or a pose that doesn’t break your chameleon outline.

Seeker Controls

Seekers play in first person: move with WASD, sweep with the mouse, and tag disguised chameleons directly. There’s no radar gadget to lean on — spotting is about strafing to catch the parallax “shift” of a painted player and hunting texture that doesn’t quite line up with the wall around it.

Guide FAQs

What are the default controls in Mecha Chameleon? +

Does Mecha Chameleon support controllers? +

Yes, a controller is supported, but most players prefer mouse and keyboard because painting freeform camouflage demands precise cursor control and color sampling.
